Nick Skodras

Cherished for his big personality and even bigger heart, Nick led a life filled with hard work, love and compassion. Nick was born in March of 1945, in Veria, Greece, where he grew up with his parents and younger sister. Raised in Larissa, Greece, he graduated from AGB High School and spent time playing soccer with friends and working in his family’s lumber yard. He often told stories about getting his first pair of shoes, his experiences in post-war Europe, the games he played with schoolmates and his service as a lieutenant in the Greek Army.

In 1968, Nick bravely set out for a new life in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to join his sister. There, he embraced various jobs as he pursued the American Dream. After relocating to Boulder in 1971, the Skodras family opened a restaurant, The Aristocrat Steak House. “The Nick’s Special”, a 6 egg Omelet, became a beloved favorite and is still fondly remembered today by past patrons. Nick took immense pride in creating memorable dining experiences and oftentimes providing free meals to those in need.

Beyond his established career as a restaurateur, Nick was most proud of being a father. He raised his three children Constantine, Lillian and Nicholas with unparalleled love and devotion. He showed his unconditional support by never missing a practice or game, providing homemade meals and ensuring each conversation closed with an “I love you.” His legacy will forever inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Nick was preceded in death by his parents, Voula and Gus Skodras. He is survived by his sister, Julie Welker; his children, Constantine (Adeline) Skodras, Lillian (Jimmy) McCulloch, Nicholas (Emily) Skodras; his niece and nephew Christine Welker and J Welker; his grandchildren Franklin and Leni; and of course, his granddogs Lou-Lou, Wilson, Raina and Kaiser.

Services to honor Nick’s life will be held as follows: Monday, October 14th: Trisagion Service and Viewing at Crist Mortuary, 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday, October 15th: Funeral Service at Saints Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church at 11:00 AM, followed by a Graveside Service at Green Mountain Cemetery at 1:00 PM. Please join us in celebrating the remarkable life of Nick Skodras, whose warmth and kindness will be profoundly missed.
