Nancy D. Timms of Boulder, Colorado and more recently, Colorado Springs went to her heavenly rest on April 23, 2012. Nancy was born in Kansas City, Missouri on November 13, 1927 to Harry and Mary Elise Dille. Nancy’s mother died when she was only 9 months old. During her childhood, Nancy’s father served in the U.S. military, and Nancy was raised by Miss Grace Dever and Miss Lillian St. Ore. Nancy met her husband, Dr. Frederick U. Timms, at Paseo High School in Kansas City, Mo., and they were married in 1950 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Kansas City, Mo.
Nancy and Fred moved to Madison, Wisconsin in 1947 where Fred worked on his residency in Internal Medicine, and Nancy taught Spanish while completing her Masters Degree at the University of Wisconsin. The couple then moved to Portsmouth, Virginia where Fred completed his residency with the U.S. Navy. In 1953, their first child Michael was born, but passed away 9 months later. Their second child, Mary Catherine was born in 1954 in Portsmouth. In 1955, Fred and Nancy moved to Pueblo, Colorado, and then to Boulder, Colorado where Fred began a private medical practice and Nancy attended the University of Colorado. In Boulder, their third child, Patrick and fourth child, Grace, were born in 1956 and 1957, respectively. In 1992, Fred passed away, and in 1998 Nancy moved to Bakersfield, California where she enjoyed the ocean and California lifestyle. She moved to Colorado Springs in 2004 where she spent time with her daughter Mary and her family and son Patrick and his family.
An aficionado of education, literature, and spirituality, Nancy earned several degrees and certificates during her lifetime. In 1947, she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish from the University of Kansas in Kansas City, Kansas. She earned her first Master’s Degree in Spanish. at the University of Wisconsin in Madison in 1949 and her second Master’s Degree in Psychology in 1970 from the University of Colorado in Boulder. Honorary achievements included Phi Beta Kappa - National Honorary for History, and Phi Alpha Theta. Nancy was also a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood- Chapters EQ (Boulder), HY (Bakersfield), and EM (Colorado Springs).
Nancy’s love for the Lord was profound. She and Fred converted to Roman Catholicism in 1976 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Boulder. She was a parishioner of St. Philip the Apostle Church in Bakersfield and attended Faith Presbyterian Church and Benet Hill Monastery in Colorado Springs. At the age of 80, Nancy received a Certificate in Spiritual Formation from Benet Hill Monastery, and during her final years, Benet Hill Monastery became her spiritual refuge.
Nancy is preceded in death by her son, Michael, and husband Frederick. She is survived by her daughter Mary Catherine and her husband Armen Mardiguian of Colorado Springs, and her granddaughters Amy and Catherine Mardiguian; her son Dr. Patrick Timms and wife Linda of Pueblo, and their children Jeff (and Dana) Montoya, Bryan (and Courtney) Montoya, Sunny (and Justin) Montoya, and Kyle (and Gian) Montoya; and her daughter Grace and husband Sidney Coan III of Bakersfield, California, and their son Sidney Coan IV. Nancy has three great–grandchildren: Teagan and Brenna Montoya, and Nora Jean Montoya.
Services for Nancy will be held on Monday, April 30, 2012 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, located at 1318 Mapleton Ave. in Boulder, Co. Visitation will take place from 9:00-9:30 a.m. with Recitation of the Holy Rosary from 9:30-10:00. The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 a.m. A reception at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church shall follow the Mass. A private burial service for family members will be held at Mountain View Memorial Park in Boulder.
