Nancy Sheffield (nee Broward) passed away at home on September 17, 2024, at the age of 87 in Boulder, Colorado. She is survived by her children Audrey and Robert (Ana Elena), granddaughter Cassie Hippensteel (Jacob), and great-grandchildren Levi and Hazel. A native Texan, Nancy was born November 18, 1936, in Ft Worth. She graduated from Pascal High School and attended the University of Texas (Austin) until her studies were interrupted by motherhood.
She moved to Colorado in 1962 where she raised her children and developed her love for the mountains. She was an avid hiker and camper, even backpacking in Utah’s Escalante Wilderness to celebrate her 60th birthday.
Nancy resumed her academic studies in 1973, finishing a degree in Political Science and a Master’s in Public Affairs. She became a leading expert in public finance; working for many local governments and municipalities. After retiring from public work, she ran her accounting and CPA business.
Nancy had many passions, including music, running, tennis, and the mountains. She learned to play the organ and sang in many church choirs. Her extensive CD collection reflected a love of organ music, classical, jazz, and Big Band. She also enjoyed singing in church choirs and even traveled to Europe to sing with the Cantabile Ensemble. In her 50s, she took up running and made the Bolder Boulder 10k an annual rite of spring for 17 races. At 79, she ran her final race, coming in 10th in her age group. A member of the Eskimo Ski Club, she skied even into her 70s. Tennis, however, was her lifetime passion, playing well into her 80s. One of her favorite trips was to New York to watch the US Open.
Nancy was admired for her amiable demeanor, as well as her deep-rooted values which she observed stubbornly and passed on to her children, forming an ethical foundation for generations to follow.
At her request, no services are planned. Private interment will be held at Green Mountain Cemetery in Boulder. Memorial donations to the Colorado Chautauqua Association https://www.chautauqua.com/support-us/ways-to-give/
