June was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. After graduating from St. Joseph’s Academy, she attended Louisiana State University, Louisiana Tech, and received her PhD from Texas Women’s University.
June lived to make things beautiful through decorating, interior design, sewing, gardening, hosting parties, and renovating old homes. She could make the most unwelcoming room glow with elegance. She could transform the ugliest, run down house into a palace. She delighted in teaching students in her long career at ULM in the Departments of Home Economics, Family & Consumer Sciences and Construction from 1979-2013. She often spoke of how much her students taught her.
June truly believed in helping others. She demonstrated this by volunteering with incarcerated women in the Richland Parish Jail for 25 years as well as offering her time and expertise to other community organizations. She was a member of Jesus the Good Shepherd Church.
Her first loves were her family, friends, her spiritual community, and dancing. She fulfilled a lifelong dream by becoming a competitive ballroom dancer late in life. She was still dancing until weeks before her death. June was blessed to have a community of incredible friends who supported her intensively through her long illness.
June is survived by her daughters, Amy and Elizabeth, her sister, Marilyn, her brother-in-law, Joseph, his wife, Joann, and five nieces and nephews. Her parents and sister Anita preceded her in death.
