He attended St Albans High School in Washington DC where he earned numerous scholarships and academic awards. He later attended and graduated from CU Boulder where he met the love of his life, Rita Tallman.
John and Rita were married for 51 years and were the epitome of a happy couple. They are survived by their four children - Dawn (Berg), John and Bridget Harman, Shannon and Dan Bess and Tara and Allen Buckner. John also leaves an amazing legacy of 10 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
John spent 30 years working for the National Bureau of Standards as an Electrical Engineer. After retiring in 1990, John and Rita took time to satisfy their love for travel. They visited Ireland where he scored his first of his two holes-in-one. They also traveled to Mexico between visits to all 50 U.S. states. Throughout these travels, they enjoyed golf wherever and whenever they could. After retiring from traveling, John enjoyed golfing with his children as well as his usual foursome in Boulder.
John was a child of God and an extraordinary handyman, mentor and mechanic. Most admirably, however, he was friend to all who had the privilege of his acquaintance. He was a man that devoted his life to family. He taught his children and grandchildren to have loving hearts and to always believe they could accomplish anything. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
John was also a consummate animal lover. In lieu of flowers, feel free to make a donation to the Boulder County Humane Society.
