Donald Wayne Stengel, 69, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 at his home in Dacono, Colorado. Although those he left behind believe he’s gone too soon, we know he lived his life close to the Lord and is now in a better place.
Don was born on May 9, 1955 in Boulder, Colorado to Mary Margaret “Peg” Stengel and Louis Richard “Dick” Stengel. Don was raised in Boulder County, Colorado and graduated from Fairview High School and Boulder Valley Vocational Technical School where he studied electronics. Don and his Dad founded D&D Repair in Lafayette, CO which specialized in mechanical repair of heavy equipment and automobiles. Together they also owned a soda distribution business. However, Don was a ‘Ford’ man through and through and owned nothing else and throughout Don’s career he specialized in auto mechanics and small engine repair. Don’s passions were trains, both model trains and the real thing. Over the 24 years Don and his wife, Vickie, were married, they traveled across the U.S. to ride the rails. Additionally, he dedicated a room in his house to his model train village. Don also included his grandsons in his train hobby, by taking them to train shows and building them their own train layouts. He also loved exploring the mountains in his 1956 Willys Jeep that he named “Lil Blue Pup”.
Don is survived by his wife, Vickie and his daughter, Charity Dostal (Clint) of Frederick, CO ; and his sisters, Peggy Barnett of Mohave Valley, Arizona; Judy (Norm) Marsh of Windsor, Colorado; Marlene Stengel of Anchorage, Alaska; and, Lori (Randy) Page of Longmont, Colorado; two grandchildren (Dakota & Bryce Dostal). He is preceded in death by his parents.
The family is planning a Celebration of Life at the Rinn Methodist Church in Frederick, CO on July 29th at 2:00 p.m.
