Catherine Hannah “Kitty” Cramer died peacefully on Monday, August 26, 2013 at Boulder Community Hospital. Kitty was born on October 9, 1922, to Francis and Grace Conner McCloskey in Greensburg, Pennsylvania.
Grosse Pointe, Michigan was home to many of Kitty’s warmest memories of growing up near Lake Michigan with her five brothers, Joseph, Bill, Tom, David, Ed, and her sister, Mary Grace. After graduating from St. Paul High School, Kitty worked briefly at the War Department in downtown Detroit, but soon accepted a position as a clothing buyer in the Vendome Department in the J. L. Hudson Department Store in Detroit.
Returning to Greensburg, Kitty met and married John “Jack” Cramer on June 5, 1948. In the years that followed, she became a devoted mother to seven children, John Jr., Paul, Mary Grace, Mary Josephine, Francis, Mark, and Elizabeth. In 1967 the family moved to DePere, Wisconsin, where her husband Jack accepted a position as a professor at St. Norbert College. Following his retirement in 1984, Kitty and Jack moved to the Boulder area where they enjoyed their family, which eventually grew to include her many grandchildren: Matthew, Sarah, Leslie, Jessica, Andrew, Paul Jr., Emily, Patrick, Samuel, Alex, Meghan, Jacob, Katie, and Jane.
Gentle, reserved, disciplined, and generous are only a few of the words that describe Kitty. The pride she took in her role as a homemaker, mother, and purveyor of the world’s current events were among her many strengths. Those of us who knew her best, knew her to be open minded to the changing world. She enjoyed spending time with family, traveling in the United States and Europe, visiting her favorite restaurants, sightseeing in the mountains, watching her many news programs, and rooting for her favorite teams, the Rockies and Broncos. Kitty will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.
