Sidney Fay Green, 93, died Wednesday, December 7, 2011, in Madras, OR. He was born to Albert Sidney and Ercell Robinson Green in New Site in 1918. His family moved to Booneville when he was young and he forever considered Booneville his hometown. A member of the first graduating class of the new Booneville High School in 1938, he tried his hand at farming for a while, the briefly attended college before enlisting in the U.S. Navy on December 7, 1939, and after a short break in service, eventually served 27 years before his retirement. After retiring from the Navy, he worked at the Naval Air Rework Facility in San Diego, CA. He remained in San Diego until 2001, when he moved with his daughter to Madras, OR. He returned to Booneville for a short time to live in The Landmark, an assisted living facility located in his old high school building, but soon returned to Oregon to be closer to his children.
Funeral will be at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 7, 2012, at the McMillan Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Lynn Jones officiating. Burial will be in Booneville Cemetery.
He is survived by his children, Rebecca Turner of Madras, OR, James Sidney Green of Missoula, MT, Doyle Wayne Green of Myrtle Creek, OR and Billi Chapman of San Diego, CA; a sister, Euple Green Harding of Leeds, AL; three brothers, Clell Green of Cartersville, GA, James Dudley “Jimmy” Green of Clinton, MS and John Wayne Green of Booneville; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Billia Joan Stephens Green; and a sister, Areta Green Burrage.
Visitation will be from Noon until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
