Ruby Senter Roden, 98, died Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at home where she lived with her niece and her husband, Jean and Johnny Creel. She was born September 3, 1912 in Booneville to Dr. and Mrs. Richard Lafayette Senter Sr. She was reared in Tupelo and Fulton. In 1937 she married E.O. Roden. After living many places, they chose Booneville as their home town and location of their first radio station.
Mrs. Roden was a faithful member of First Baptist Church for over sixty years where she has served as Sunday school teacher, Bible school leader, choir member, WMU leader, and was an organizer of Joy Makers.
Her special interest has been working with the handicapped, largely because her first child had cerebral palsy. She was on the Board of Directors of the Regional Rehabilitation Center in Tupelo and was involved since the early days when the Rehab was meeting in a church basement.
She was honored in 2004 to be selected “Good Citizen of the Year.”
Her favorite time of each day was her quiet time in her prayer room where she read her Bible and prayed. In recent years, she has relied on the many pictures pinned to her wall as her prayer list. She had a great deal of scripture memorized, including the “Sermon on the Mount” and many of the Psalms. Every Tuesday she would spend several hours quoting each verse in order to keep them fresh in her mind.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 21, 2011 at the McMillan Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the East Fulton Cemetery. There will be a reception for the family and guest in the fellowship hall of First Baptist Church following the service. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
The service will be officiated by her nephew, Rev. Joe Senter of Warner Robbin, Georgia. The eulogy will be given by her niece, Jean Creel. Prayer will be led by her pastor, Dr. Lynn Jones. The music will consist of hymns played on the marimba by her nephew Bill Compere of Burleson, Texas, and piano played by Carol Dickerson.
She is survived by her granddaughter, Melody Carr Johnson (Clay), and her great –grandsons, Joshua Maldonado and Casey Presley, all of Booneville; her grandson, Jason Carr of Austin, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Vola Senter of Fulton and Inez Ogg of Okolona; many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

Roden; two daughters, Nanette Roden and Gaye Roden Carr (Emmett); two granddaughters, Margaret Carr and Rosemary Carr; her parents, Esse Morris Senter and Dr. Richard L. Senter, Sr.; two brothers, Alfred Senter (Nellie) and Dick Senter; three sisters, Gladys Jacqueline Senter Compere (Lowery), Mildred Senter Sheffield (Hubert), and Dorothy Senter Bryant (Jack).
