Delma Faye Fitzsimmons Sanchez, 93, of Booneville, passed away on Monday, January 6, 2025, after a long life filled with faith, family, and love. She was born on August 5, 1931, in Prentiss County, she was the daughter of the late John William Thompson (Pappy) and Lillian Victoria Whitaker Thompson (Mammy). Mrs. Delma retired from General Motors in Chicago, IL and returned to Mississippi where she raised her family who affectionately called her “Maw D”. She was kind, compassionate, and a devoted mother to her two sons Rickey Fitzsimmons (Robin), and Tony Fitzsimmons (JoAnn), all of Marietta, and her late daughter, Sheila Carpenter.
A Celebration of Life will be at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at McMillan Funeral Home with Bro. Ronnie Hatfield and Minister Tony Brown officiating. Burial will be in the Magnolia Gardens. She is survived by her sons, her daughters-in-law, a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one brother, Harold Thompson (Jeanie) of Olive Branch, MS. Her legacy also includes many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family. She was greeted in her Heavenly home by her parents, her first husband, James Fitzsimmons, her second husband, Luis Sanchez, her daughter, her brothers, Ellis Thompson (Sophie), Les Thompson (Nan), Lester Thompson (Mildred), Hubert Thompson, and her sisters, Ernestine King (Jessie), Jewell Sheffield (Henry), Mildred Lowery (Leon), Etheleene Lee (Freed), Edith Bowen (Charlie), and her infant sister Edna Thompson.
She loved her God and her church, which she attended faithfully until her illness prevented her from doing so. She loved her roses, cooking, reading, and being with her large family and network of friends. She was also known for her caregiving nature because of the way she took care of all whom she loved, but she was just as known for her quick wit and firm but fair demeanor. She kept those whom she loved on their toes and raised her family with a passion for righteousness and accountability. Her graciousness, kind spirit, and loving presence will be sorely missed.
