Betty Joyce Windham Williams, 82, passed away on Saturday, December 17, 2022, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Booneville, Mississippi. She was born on August 9, 1940, to Zena and Sam J. Windham. On August 23, 1959 she married the love of her life, Dewey Don Williams. She was a graduate of Thrasher high School and furthered her education by first attending Northeast Community College, earning a Bachelor of Science in Education from Blue Mountain College, earning a Master of Science in Education from the University of Mississippi, and taking advanced training in computer science through Mississippi State. She was selected to become a member of the Delta Psi Epsilon Education Society. From 1969 to 1992 she taught business and English at Biggersville High School and from 1992 to 2002 she taught at Booneville Middle School and Booneville High School. She was selected as the Corinth, Mississippi Rotary Club Teacher of the Year in the 1986-87 school year. She was also selected as the Future Business Leader of America Advisor of the Year in Mississippi in 1987.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church Adult Choir and Berea Sunday School Class. Betty helped organize the Prentiss County Community Fund (United Way) and served as the Executive Secretary for 27 years. She served Prentiss County as Home Service Worker for the American Red Cross for 22 years. She was a member of the Woman’s Club of Booneville since 1981 and served as the Vice President and President. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma since 1989. She served as the Epsilon Chapter President. She served as the District III Assistant Vice President. In 1991 Betty was selected as a Woman of Distinction. She served on the Community Advisory Board for the Baptist Hospital in Booneville. She served on the United Way of Northeast Mississippi Funds Distribution Committee. She also coordinated the Miss Hospitality Contest to celebrate 60 years of local participation.
A Celebration of Life will be at 1:00 P.M. Monday, December 19, 2022, at McMillan Funeral Home with Brother Jason Reed officiating. Burial will be in Booneville Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
She is survived by her husband, Dewey Don Williams; one son, Greg Williams (Kim); one daughter, Wendy Scott (Ray); her grandchildren, Jon Andy Scott (Kacie), Jake Scott (Cora), Graham Williams (Sophia), Molly Grace Myers (Clinton), and J. Ross Scott; and two great-grandchildren, Stryker Scott and Jaclyn Scott.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Zena Lambert Coley and Sam J. Windham; her step-father, Harold Coley; her sister, Barbara Morris; and one daughter, Lisa Don Williams.
Pallbearers are Bobby Manley, Ken Goodwin, Max Coley, Jason Coley, Jimmy McNair and Maurice Stafford.
