Dear Yolanda and Martinez Boys,

I am so deeply sorry for your loss. Ricardo and you guys were incredible friends and support group for our family in our darkest hour.  The bond that our boys created and the enduring friendship that we all developed was special.  
I will forever be thankful for watching out and helping my boys and wife during those trying years. We love you very much.  
Ricardo always brought laughter and happiness wherever he went   He will be greatly missed but will live forever in the hearts of those he impacted in his short stay here on earth.

Ricardo thank you for your friendship and for the laughter you brought to the people that you touched. We will miss you Rick but we will always have you in our hearts. I have a few close friends in my lifetime that I would consider a brother and you’re definitely in that group that I would call Brother.  I still remember our time at school, playing football, playing poker, going to TJ, and me saving you from getting beat up 😂.  I miss you bro. 

Also to Yolanda and the Boys I am deeply sorry for your loss. I want to thank you Yolanda for making my brother Ricardo happy. The 3 young men Ricky, Benny, and Alex; you guys will make your dad more proud in the up coming future with all the great accomplishment in your lives and please protect your mom. I pray that you all find peace and strength in this time of sorrow. 

To Ricardo’s family and friends; we will all miss him because he was one of a kind. Even now I am crying and remembering all the great times I spent together with you Rick. We love you man and we will always have you in our hearts. RIP bro.

I can only say, what a nice young man and father and husband.  During my time at ELM. I had the privilege to know him as always forgetting to submit his daily attendance. I would tell him just hit the submit button. For the most part he never did it. So I would just go ahead and override his work! Only because he was funny and always smiling and nice to me.  You will be missed!

Rick you are one of the best personalities I have been fortunate enough to become friends with. I always appreciated your positive vibe that you embodied and always finding the bright side in tough situations. I played with Ricky during freshman football in 2010, you coached my younger brother in flag football at ELM in 2014,  we coached together at EHS in 2021, and you introduced me to the idea of teaching which I am now doing. So glad I knew you as someone I coached with, as a mentor, and as a friend.

Dear Martinez Family,

I worked with Ricardo for the past 10 years and I can say he is the funniest and most playful person I ever worked with. I always saw him with a big smile, laughing and cracking jokes. Even during his illness, I always saw him at work smiling and a sprinkling his positivity on others.

He also had a big heart for his students. He was always open to taking on the "tough" students and using his coach mentality to motivate students that needed extra encouragement and tough love. I will always remember him as a coach, pushing students to be their best. 

Ricardo always cared about his colleagues. Every time I saw Ricardo, he would ask me about my kids and of course try to recruit them to wrestling (lol). And of course, I always liked getting the updates about his kids as well. You could see his face light up with pride when he spoke of his family. I always liked sitting next to him during staff meetings because he would make the time go faster...but secretly I would be a little worried we would get us in trouble with all the laughing.

My heart goes out to you during this very difficult time but please know that Ricardo left his legacy at Eastlake Middle School and will always be remembered for his smile and warmth.

Yolanda and Martinez boys,

I am deeply sorry for your loss. Ricardo was a caring, funny and dedicated colleague and friend. I will always treasure the memories I had with him at Eastlake Middle. 

I will never forget his willingness to supervise or chaperone student activities when I was the ASB advisor. Those field trips to Disneyland and Knott’s Berry Farm are priceless. I will also miss the friendly sports wager between his LA Dodgers and Dallas Cowboys and my SD Chargers and SD Padres. He won so many times that I lost track of how many carne asada burritos I bought for him.

Rest in peace my friend. Though you are gone, you will never be forgotten at ELM.

Ricardo would pick his sons up after school in my room and we would stand by the door talking.  The last time I saw Ricardo was in Ralph's Grocery store with his sons who he loved dearly with all his heart.  Ricardo was a great dad.  I will miss him.  I am praying for all the family. Your parents raised you well, the way you've treated me was parents treated me,  like family. To The Martinez Family,

It is with great sadness to have learned of the passing of your husband and father.  Coach Martinez took my son under his wing starting in middle school and was a great coach, mentor, and friend to my son Justin throughout his high school years. He took great care of all of his students and athletes and made a lasting impression on all of them.  Coach was very instrumental in getting my son back on the baseball diamond to finish out his high school years.  He was a wonderful man who will be greatly missed.  Our deepest condolences to you all during this time of sorrow.

Last year, I was in Mr. Martinez’ 8th grade science class.  I was very sad when I heard about his passing.  I really liked him as a teacher, he was very nice and funny.  I learned so much in his class, not only about science but much more.  You all are in my thoughts and prayers.
