Mary J. Medina was born on June 9, 1925 in Lincoln Acres to Benjamin & Soledad Serrano Ayala. She was the third of six children, but the first daughter. She often spoke of her wonderful and happy childhood, and the love she had for her parents. She grew up & lived in National City most of her life. Mary passed away peacefully on May 28, 2015 in National City.
She had an amazing love for her God, her family, National City and the Padres. She was a devoted homemaker who raised her five children on Division Street in National City. She cherished and loved having family gatherings. She had a passion for gardening, camping, music, Padre Games, playing the slots at the casino and spending time with family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Antonio Ayala, Julian Ayala & Leroy Serrano as well as her sister, Eleanor Enriquez. She is survived by her five children: Robert Medina, Gloria (Garnet) Hensley, Tina Medina, Tony (Celia) Medina, Daniel (Debbie) Medina, daughter-in-law Lydia Medina, her sister Dolores Garcia and brother Rudy Ayala and many nieces & nephews.
She had 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. One of her greatest joys was being a Grandmother and Great Grandmother. She was adored by them all and often times had one or more on her lap making her laugh. She was known to all as "Grandma Mary."
Mary was the heart & soul of her family. Her legacy of faith, love and family will live on through those she's left behind. She is forever in our hearts.
