Juan A. Salas

Juan had six siblings. They were brothers, William and Roman, and sisters Lourdes, Delores, Balbina, and Maria. Juan was usually involved in all sorts of activities with his siblings. He and his siblings experienced rivalries typical of a growing family, but they shared many life experiences over the years.

On September 23, 1950 Juan exchanged wedding vows with Beatrice Pangelinan Delgado in Guam. Empathic and loyal, Juan was committed to making his new family happy.

Juan worked hard to be a good father to his children and he did his best to fulfill their needs. Juan was blessed with ten children, eight daughters, Carmelita, Winnie Frieda, Lorraine, Cerila, Jovita, Bonita, Dori, and Christine, and two sons, John Anthony and Michael.

Juan enjoyed his college years, which may have been a challenge with all of the academics, responsibilities but he was able to manage the balancing act. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Maryland in 1976.

Fortunately, Juan was great at what he did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, Juan worked diligently and did his best to succeed in his career. His primary occupation was working for the United States Navy where he earned numerous awards and commendations. Through his exceptional work within the Navy, Juan climbed the ladder of success and earned an Executive Branch position for The United States Navy Department of Treasury.

Throughout his life, Juan was a doer and was always actively involved in professional and community organizations. Throughout his later years, Juan was an active member of the Sons and Daughters of Guam Club. In this club he had taken on the position of Treasurer, Vice President, and President.

Sadly, Juan passed away on September 6, 2010 in the comfort of his home in El Cajon, California. Juan passed away due to natural causes. He is survived by his children, Carmelita Campbell, Lorraine Ichihara, Cerila Brady, Jovita Salas, Bonita Grey, Dori Haney, Christine Lee, Michael Salas, and John Anthony Delgado Salas; his many grandchildren and great- grand children; as well as his siblings Delores Lizama, Balbina Aguon, and Maria Iriarte. Services were held at St. John of the Cross Catholic Church on September 10, 2010. Juan was laid to rest in Glen Abbey Memorial Park in Bonita, California.

Simply stated, Juan was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by his family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Juan leaves behind him a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life he touched will always remember Juan A. Salas.
