Jack D Blakely

He was born February 17th, 1946, to Houston Donald and Stella Taylor in Kingsport, Tennessee. Jack was nine, when his family moved to Chula Vista. His dad found a job with Rohr Industries. Jack’s first school was Flower Street School and he graduated from Chula Vista High School in 1964.

Married to Pamela Blakely in 1982, Jack and Pamela lived their entire married life in Chula Vista. After many other jobs, Jack opened and successfully ran Jack’s Sporting Goods for twenty-five years, supplying numerous schools, teams, and individuals with sporting needs. After closing the doors of Jack’s Sporting Goods, Jack served as the Executive Director of the Downtown Chula Vista Business Association where he dedicated 12 years, and where he retired in 2013. Jack was also a member of the Chula Vista Sunrise Rotary Club and served as the President.

In 2013, Jack acted as the Treasurer for The Chula Vista High School Foundation to raise money to purchase a new digital marquee for the Chula Vista High School, his alma mater. He was inducted into the Sweetwater Union School District’s Hall of Fame in 2003 for his community service to Chula Vista. Jack was instrumental in helping build a vision for a new and dynamic downtown. He created unique annual City events such as the Cinco de Mayo Festival, Lemon Festival, the Starlight Parade, and the weekly Farmers Market. Jack was also a major supporter of the new Chula Vista Bayfront development, which is being built today.

Jack was a loving father, grandfather, and sports fan. He loved the San Diego Padres and the San Diego Chargers. He traveled numerous times with his grandsons to their travel baseball tournaments to show support. He loved to golf and was a member of the Chula Vista Country Club for many years. He also loved gardening with Pam at their home.

Jack was genuinely respected, admired, and appreciated by all who have had the opportunity to know and work with him. Jack will be missed by all who knew him.

Jack was predeceased by his parents Houston Douglas Blakely and Stella Rona Taylor, and his sister, Barbara Wantland.

He is survived and loved by his wife Pamela Blakely, daughter Sandra Nault (Dennis), and grandsons, Austin Blakely Nault and Caleb John Nault.

Jack is also survived by his sister Joyce Peart.

The family would like to acknowledge the excellent care that was given to Jack by Dr. Randy Angell, and Dr. Puja Vora of Kaiser Permanente as well as his caregivers from Mission Hospice.

A Remembrance Service will be November 4th, at 1pm at Glen Abbey Memorial Park and Mortuary, 3838 Bonita Road in Bonita, California.
