Gloria Deane Schoap, of Chula Vista, California, died in her sleep Sunday, December 9, 2018 at the age of 96. Born May 24, 1922, in Shamrock, Oklahoma, she grew up in Oklahoma's oil-boom towns and Dust Bowl farms.
She served in the first class of WAVES (the Navy's women's auxiliary service) at the outset of WWII and was the first female Loan Officer in the Small Business Administration's San Diego region. She was a member of Chula Vista Presbyterian Church and a lifelong Chargers and Padres fan. She had a wonderful alto voice and sang in church and community choirs all her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hermon Edwin Brown and Ethel Roberta Rigney Brown, and by her husband of 55 years, Phil Schoap. She is survived by her 5 children, Mike (Stephanie) Schoap, Chris (Judith) Schoap, Reith Schoap, Tim (Bonnie) Schoap, and Jeff Schoap, and grandchildren Ted Schoap, Hillary Oseas, Elly Mattos, Jonathan Schoap, Sarah Blackburn, Tara Koberstein, and Ethan Schoap, and by 11 great-grandchildren.
