Terry was born on March 19, 1950, in Honesdale, Pennsylvania to Frank and Marguerite Metzger. He grew up as a typical country boy, climbing cliffs, eating fresh berries and drinking water straight from the creek. As a teenager, his family moved to Long Island, New York, where he made life-long friends, attended SUNY at New Paltz, and began a banking career where he met his wife, Ginger. Career advancement lead to Manhattan; however after years of New York winters and commuting from Long Island, Terry and Ginger relocated to sunny South Florida.
A career change came in the early 1980’s and Terry spent the next 35 years as a trusted financial advisor, during which time he attended The Wharton School and served on the board of the Florida Securities Dealers Association. Much of his success can be attributed to his investment knowledge and friendly nature that made one feel instantly comfortable and at ease.
An amazing father and role model Terry participated in all aspects of his daughters’ lives including performing in Father Daughter dances, coaching softball, planning family vacations, and attending all events related to his girls. He was always there to provide support, advice, and inspiration.
Terry enjoyed life to the fullest with family and friends. His favorite activities included travel, sports, hunting and spending time at the beach; a towel and bathing suit always at the ready in the trunk of his car. By far, golf was his favorite pastime. Throughout his life Terry’s love of golf and travel lead him to play at incredible courses around the world with friends and colleagues. For the last 10 years, Terry could be found playing every weekend on his home course at Delray Dunes.
Terry was a fun loving, sincere, honest, big hearted man who always put the needs of family and friends before his own. His laughter was contagious; his quick wit well known. He will be missed more than words can express. Terry is survived by his wife of 43 years; children Amanda (Jess) Lott and Christine Metzger; grandson Jack Everett Lott; brothers James (Marie) Ryan, Frank (Jeanne) Metzger, and sister Marguerite Grasse.
