Shirley Courtney, 82, of Boca Raton, FL passed away Wednesday evening, October 15, 2014. Born in Dallas TX September 27, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Henderson and Mary Tyson. Shirley was one who excelled at everything. Following her graduation from the University of Houston in 1954 with a degree in Elementary Education, she was selected to join Pan American Airways as a stewardess. Following her employment with Pan Am, she began her teaching career in Houston, TX. In 1956, Paul and Shirley were married in Honolulu, HI. She was, first and foremost, a loving wife and mother, but she was also a Navy wife of 26 years and an elementary school teacher who adored her students. Surviving Shirley is her loving husband Paul, her daughters Karen Gerbaz and Lynn Hegedus and her six grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30AM at St Gregory’s Episcopal Church located at 100 NE Mizner Blvd, Boca Raton FL 33429 on Wednesday, October 22nd 2014. Shirley will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
