I have written a huge tome about my friendship with my Rosie, but it doesn't fit! Here are some highlights:

You wonder why you meet some people and then it becomes clear: you are friend-soul-mates, confidantes. Rosie and I were fifteen years apart, she could have been my big sister, the one who has lived through some tough times and still survived. We both grew up on the Lower East Side of Manhattan.

How did we meet? 
We were brought together by fat. We attended the same Weight Watchers meeting. We were bound by the same, universal struggle: the desire to lose weight. Who would think that fat could lead you to a great friendship?

We were best buds. We would share snippets of our life stories: tea and sympathy, in Rosie's little kitchen. Sometimes we'd cry and sometimes we'd laugh. When Rosie let go and laughed she would laugh with abandon and pull me along for the ride.

I know that somewhere in heaven, Rosie is having a good laugh, a cup of tea, and huge slice of angel food cake.

Joanne, Michael, And the family of Rose, I am sorry of hearing of her passing, but Rose,you are now with the ones, you loved , that you loved, dearly when they were alive, ...You lived a very good life, with people who adored you, May perpetual life shine, on you always, RIP , and God Bless,,you will be missed immensly..

Rosie was a second mom to me. “Ma” was fiercely protective and pulled no punches with the truth. I spent so much time having food at her table. She taught me to cook, stand up for myself and the people I love.  She loved my kids and my husband like we were family. She was a force to be reckoned with and we will miss her

Our sincere condolences to my cousins Joanne and Michael and Grace.
I grew up idolizing my cousin Rosie. She was seven years older than me.  We would always visit my aunt Virginia and uncle Joe Rosie’s parents apartment on Mulberry Street. We were a very close family.
Rosie would take care of me and when I got older she would Polish my nails and make me feel so special. 
We love each other dearly and I will always miss her.  All the good memories of all the holidays we spent with our very large family has been with me all my life. There was nobody like Rosie to me.  She is in my heart forever.

Mom.  My Rosie.  Thank you for your unconditional love only a mother could have for her children.  You always made me feel like I was the king of the world.  I wasn’t.  

I cherish all of my memories going back to my earliest when you and Janet would sit and drink iced tea, and Toni and I would come in for the soaked lemons.  

No matter how good or bad times were you always created the most wonderful meals that brought us all together and attracted so many friends to come to the feast you put together.  There was always enough and room for one more.  Your baking was delicious although not always pretty and I still remember your Lucy pies.  Good or bad it was always fun.  

I especially remember and loved decorating for Christmas, listening to the Chipmunks and you, me, Joanne and Virginia marveling at the tree.  Even though it was fake we thought it was so beautiful every year (and so 70’s) which makes the memory so much more special.  When Christmas morning came there was tons of love under the tree and all around us no matter what.    

Later when I was in college, a little discouraged and ready to drop out you inspired me to make some adjustments, push forward and get my degree.  You inspired me to that achievement which to this day I am so incredibly proud, but it was you who made that possible.  I had no idea at the time as it was just another day and one conversation where you did so much for me.  

As I say goodbye to my incredible mother I only wish we had more time together and that I could have made you all better but life doesn’t work that way.  For now, you are with Virginia and I know you are both looking down on Joanne and me with that unconditional love that will last forever.  

So rather than saying goodbye I’ll just say see you later and when my time comes we can all be together again and eat a little Lucy pie with iced tea.

Rose Spondello meant the world to me.  My heart ached hearing of her passing.  Rose was classy, beautiful, super smart and loved beyond words by all she knew in her beautiful life. Her children were her world and trust me, she fussed over them daily if not more! I was blessed to have spent lots of time with Rose in her beautiful but very warm home and have the most enjoyable conversations along with the group of us playing  all sorts of fun games which many of she won, lol.
When Rose lost her daughter Virginia ( a wonderful friend to me) she was devastated but carried on to love and support her children Joanne and Michael (wonderful friends to me as well). I now ask our Lord to hold Rose tightly in his arms. Rose, i love you.... Joanne DiSebastian

I remember going to visit Aunt Rose’s house on Sundays and she’d make her sauce for us. She’d let me play in her backyard even though I’d make a mess. She was a strong and passionate woman who will live on in our hearts! God bless her forever. 🙏

My Aunt Rose was a loving and compassionate person. She enjoyed life to its fullest and I always enjoyed the closeness we had with our family. She will be very much missed.💖

Such wonderful memories of Rosie and the Spondello family.  I was 25 when I became the upstairs tenant. It was immediately that I was accepted as part of the family. Only Rosie could  call me “my Michelina”.  The love was real. I spent more time downstairs for years than I did in my apartment. She was nanny to my first born daughter and though I no longer lived upstairs she remained nanny to my second. She will remain so forever. 
May she be resting in eternal peace with our beloved Virginia.

Dear Rose, my little sister,
I remember jumping rope and playing Potsy (Hop Scotch) on Mulberry Street.  We played school together, I was the teacher.  You learned your ABC's, addition and subtraction before you started first grade.  When we got a little older, I saved up money all week for us to go to the movies on Saturday, Papa would always give us extra money for pop corn and a drink.  We would sit out on the fire escape and watch life go by, and life has gone by.  We saw 90 years together sweet sister.  I remember the day they brought you home from the hospital.  I didn't even know Mama was having a baby, they sent me to our Aunt Rose's.  I came home, and there you were, my little Rose.  I will miss you terribly; I look forward to the day when we will be together again, and we will skip rope and play Potsy, laughing.
