Mamie was born on June 21st 1927 to loving parents, Brady and Mary Roberts, in the small town of Gastonia, N.C. As she began her life with her siblings Henry, George, and Alice she went on to complete her education at Highland High School. With bigger dreams the small town was not enough so off she went to New York City. Mamie met and fell in love with Thomas Ross and the proof of their love four children were born as a start to their legacy, Stevie, Tommy, Dwin and Brady. Mamie adored her children and she instilled in them to always reach for the best and there was nothing that they could not achieved with hard work.
Mamie was so proud of her Managerial skills as she ran John’s Bargain Store with an iron fist and a grace of love. Mamie would always glow as she proudly told the story of being the first woman and the first woman of color to hold that position. Mamie enjoyed the fact that her neighbors would wait for her to leave for work so they could see what she had on, Mamie was always Stunning on any Red Carpet.
Oh what a glorious day when she became a grandmother and to let her tell it she was the only one in the world. I do remember she said do not call me Grandma my name is Nana as if she invented the name.
