Walter Wayne Thomas passed away in Our Hospice of Southern Indiana on December 21, 2019 in Columbus, IN. Walter was born in Louisville, KY, the son of Wayne and Betty “Hattie” (Holt) Thomas. The family then moved to Bloomington where Walter graduated from Bloomington High School in 1964. He joined the US Army and was sent to Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1967 and returned to Bloomington where he enrolled at Indiana University graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business. He was an insurance agent for Commonwealth Insurance for 45 years in Columbus.
Walter was a member of the American Legion, the VFW, the Eagles and the Moose in Columbus. He was an avid fan of I.U. athletics, the Indianapolis Colts and the Pacers.
Walter is survived by his companion of 16 years; Amy Moore, his daughter; Jennifer Dennerline of Bothell, WA, his two sons; Dana (Stephanie) Thomas of Lynnwood, WA and Brian (companion Melissa) Thomas of Lynnwood, WA, one brother Charles “Bill” (Janet) Thomas of Bloomington and one sister; Frances (Billy) England of Anderson, IN.
He is also survived by three grandchildren; Skylar Thomas, Austin Dennerline and Kodi Dennerline, one niece; Stacey (Rick) Eads and one nephew; Jason (Becky) Thomas.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Louise Bray.
Visitation for Walter will be held on Friday, December 27, 2019 from 10 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 p.m. in Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home, 4150 E. Third St., Bloomington, Indiana 47401, officiated by Pastor Ed Cottrell. Burial with military honors performed by the Monroe County Veterans Honor Guard and the US Army in Clear Creek Cemetery.
