Mary Lou (Hetherington) Sturdevant, age 86, passed away with family members present at Bloomington’s Hospice House in the early evening of Thursday the 7th of March, 2013.
Born April 11, 1926 in Bloomington, Mary Lou was the daughter of Dr. John L. and Dolores L. (Lanham) Hetherington. She was a retired Registered Nurse and a graduate of the IU school of Nursing. She was dedicated to nursing serving as a House Supervisor of Nursing at Bloomington Hospital and worked in other health settings in her long career. She and sister Joan founded and operated the Bloomington Uniform Shop for many years. She was a member of First Christian Church in Bloomington, Daughters of the American Revolution, Delta Sigma Kappa Sorority, RN Club, IU Alumni Association serving on the Monroe County Indiana and Florida Suncoast Boards, and was active with the auxiliaries of the American Legion and Shrine.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Boyd W. Jr. and Sally Sturdevant of Unionville, Indiana; one daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Greg Smith of Bagdad, Kentucky; six grand children and their spouses; and, ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by Boyd Sr., her loving husband of 65 years, her parents, older brother Fred Hetherington, and younger twin sisters Joan Tabereaux and Jean Muncy.
Friends are invited to join the family from 1-3 PM on Friday, March 22 at Day Funeral Home, Bloomington, Indiana. Rev. Helen Hempfling of the First Christian Church Bloomington will lead a memorial service for Mary Lou at 3PM. In lieu of flowers, remembrance may be made to the church.
