Kay Ellen Sanford, of Bloomington died unexpectedly in Boise, Idaho at the age of 60. She was the daughter of Allen and Mildred Slickers and was born in Davenport, Iowa. The family moved to Indiana in 1954. At the age of 13, she was the Indiana state Easter Seals poster child.Kay graduated from Indiana University with a Master’s degree in elementary education. She taught at the Lighthouse Christian Academy for many years and was a long-term substitute teacher at RBBCSC. She enjoyed gardening, traveling and was the accompanist for the Monroe County Melody Makers. Kay was an active member of Sherwood Oaks Christian Church for 32 years. She was one of the first Children’s Choir Directors at SOCC, she was a Stephen’s Minister and she served on many women’s ministry committees. Kay’s passion was for the SOCC Music Ministry, where she was a pianist for the Choir and played keyboard for the Praise and Worship Teams. Kay is survived by her loving husband Tim Sanford, two sons: Nathanial(wife Kate) of Fitchburg, MA., and Aaron Sanford of Indianapolis, IN, her mother Mildred Slickers, two brothers: Randy(wife Jane)Slickers of Twin Falls, Idaho, Mark Slickers of Lafayette, IN and one sister: Margo(husband Lance)Taylor of W. Lafayette, IN. Kay is also survived by two grandsons: Owen and Gavin Sanford. She was preceded in death by her father and sister-in-law Barbara Slickers. Friends may call on Monday, August 5, 2013 from 4-8 p.m. at Sherwood Oaks Christian Church, 2700 E. Rogers Road, Bloomington, IN 47401. The funeral service will be held at the church on Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at 11 a.m. with one-hour visitation prior to the service. Long-time friend and SOCC Senior Minister, Tom Ellsworth, will be delivering the eulogy. Burial will be in Clear Creek Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Day Funeral Home.
