Joel Daniel Pugh, 54, of Bloomington, IN. passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2023 at Owen Valley Health Campus in Spencer, IN. He was born December 17, 1968 in Hammond, IN. the son of Daniel and Connie (Doty) Pugh. Joel grew up in Bloomington IN. and was a 1987 graduate of Bloomington High School North. He then went on to receive a Bachelors Degree in Telecommunications from Indiana State University. Joel was the owner of Special-T Video, a video company specializing in weddings, special events and video editing. Joel was a gifted videographer. He began making movies and rock videos in junior high and never looked back! Joel made hundreds of these videos over his lifetime, some of which, are still played on the local BCAT station. He was also a talented artist using many different kinds of art mediums. He made most of his own props for his videos. Most of his family and friends starred in his videos and to say it was a BLAST is an understatement! Joel brought joy and laughter with him wherever he went. His laugh was contagious and his outlook on life bright. He could find the good in all things and was comic relief for any situation good or bad. His beautiful, infectious smile and quick wit will be missed by many. Joel's passing will leave a hole in many hearts.
Joel's other talent was cartoon caricatures. He had a keen eye for capturing the personalities of his subjects. In junior high, he was asked to paint a mural in the teachers lounge of cartoon caricatures of the teachers and staff. He even had a cartoon published in the Herald Times. When Joel was only 11 years old, his drawings and illustrations were published in a college textbook on art technique and theory.
Joel was a member of New Life Community Church in Nashville, IN. Joel is survived by his sisters, Heidi Hendricks and Andrea Wenderoth (Shane) both of Bloomington. A brother, Monte Pugh (Robin) of Apopka, Florida. He is also survived by his nieces, Haylee Hendricks and Whitney Wenderoth both of Bloomington. Paige Hendricks Elgendy (Abed) of Cairo, Egypt and Honna Keller-Kuhn (Ben) of Nashville, IN. and his nephews Drake Wenderoth of Bloomington and Noah Followell of Apopka, Florida. Joel also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his grandparents, Alfred and Doris (Sawtelle) Doty, Sr. and Harry and Anna (Mitchell) and his brother-in-law Rob Hendricks.
A celebration of Joel's life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 9, 2023 at Day and Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home; 4150 E. Third St. Burial will follow in the Unionville Cemetery. A memorial visitation will be held 2 hours prior to the service from noon to 2:00 p.m.
