Nécrologie de Colonel James Clarence Scott Jr.
Colonel James Clarence Scott, Jr, served his country for 34 years as an officer in the United States Army. Born October 30, 1958, as the only son of James C. Scott Sr and Holly Mae Scott, brother to Bernadine, Joycelyn, and Christie, and favorite nephew to Ulysses Scott, Col. Scott was blessed to be born into a large, loving family. Growing up in Columbia, South Carolina, Col. Scott attended Columbia High School before continuing onto his next adventures in life. "The day your soldiers stop bringing you their problems is the day you have stopped leading them. General Colin Powell, 1995" Battalion Commander, Brigade Commander, and Professor are just a few of the titles that Col. Scott has held. A graduate of United States Military Academy at West Point - Class of 1980, The Command and General Staff College, The Army War College, and Indiana Wesleyan University, Col. Scott received his Bachelor of Science, Master of Business Administration, Master of Accounting, and Masters of Statistics and Strategical Warfare. He served tours of duty throughout the years in Germany, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait, and Afghanistan. His devotion to service earned him the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, a Bronze Star, a Meritorious Service Medal, an Army Commendation Medal, and the Joint Meritorious Unit Award. As a member of the 101st Air Assault & the 82nd Airborne Divisions and an Army Ranger, Col. Scott closed out his illustrious career on active-duty assignment in the Joint Chief of Staff Office at the United States Pentagon. As a retired veteran, he served as the Treasurer for the Indiana Reserve Officers Association. He offered his expertise as Operations Research Systems Analyst Manager for Crane Army Ammunition Activity (CAAA) in Crane, Indiana. On Tuesday morning, September 7, 2021, Col. Scott sat and had coffee with his wife, a quiet morning ritual. As they sat discussing the day's plans, he paused their conversation to quickly scribble something on a napkin. Later found on his desk, the note read, 'If you think too much, you're going to be slow to take action. "Conscience doth make cowards of us all -Hamlet" this portion of the play refers to the fear of death resulting in cowardice and the act of overthinking, dwindling our natural boldness in life – none of which Col. Scott can be accused of falling victim to. Later that morning, he went for a ride on his bicycle, as he did on any calm-weathered day. It was in this solitude, of which he found so blissful, that God called him home. Despite his loyalty to his country, career, and education, Col. Scott's devotion to his wife and family remained unwavering. Col. Scott married his College Sweetheart, Claudia, two days after his graduation from the United States Military Academy at West Point, in May of 1980. His legacy is carried forth by his children, James Scott III, Paramedic Jennifer Marie Scott-Johnstone, Sgt. David Scott, USMC Vet[ret], and Destiny Pounds-Scott; He was preceded in death by his father, James C. Scott Sr., his sister, Christie Barton, and his Uncle Ulysses Scott. "Someone once told me that time was a predator that stalked us all our lives. I'd rather believe that time is a companion who goes with us on a journey and allows us to cherish every moment… because they'll never come again." -Jean Luc Piccard, Star Trek: Generations Col. Scott was a quiet man, but he left an immovable imprint on everyone he met. For his family and friends, near and far, no measure of time will ever be enough. To my father, who's coming home, I love you, Daddy. ~Love, Jenn Col. Scott's Family will be receiving September 13, 2021 from 4:00pm-8:00pm.
