Eva Elmyra Woods, age 93, of Ellettsville, Indiana passed away Friday, December 8, 2023 at her residence. Born April 20, 1930 in Bloomington, Indiana, she was the daughter of Carl and Olive (Barrow) Wampler. Eva was a graduate of Unionville High School, class of 1948 and married James Lester Woods on May 1, 1948 at the home of Pastor Oscar Swindler in Bloomington. Eva was a homemaker and farmer’s wife until her children were adults. She then worked at Indiana University Food Services as a bookkeeper for twenty years. She also helped her husband construct and renovate many homes and kept the financial records for all his endeavors. Eva was a member of the Church of Christ and worshipped at Belmont, Unionville and most recently, Liberty Church of Christ. She especially enjoyed the Tuesday Morning Ladies Bible Study Group.
Eva was an excellent baker known for her yeast rolls and pies. She loved to garden both vegetables and flowers. She was a seamstress creating clothing for herself and family. She maintained a very strong work ethic and instilled that in all the generations that have followed her. Eva loved spending time with family and treasured their visits.
Eva is survived by her son, Don (Lynn) Woods, of Spencer, Indiana; daughter, Judith (Phil) Kempf, of Lanesville, Indiana; two sisters, Amy Thurman, of Ellettsville and Charlotte Martin, of Bloomington, sister-in-law, Shirley Woods, of Bloomington, five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Lester Woods, on October 18, 2008, one brother, Woodrow Wampler and three sisters, Catherine Workman, Mabel Young, and infant Freda Wampler.
The funeral service will be on Thursday, Dec. 14 at 10:00 a.m. at the Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Mt. Gilead Cemetery. Friends may visit the family on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 10.00 a.m. at the funeral home.
