Clyde Omar Fox

Clyde O. Fox, 93, a life-long resident of Bloomington, died on October 20, 2016 in IU Bloomington Hospital. Clyde was born on July 7, 1923 in Smithville, IN to the late Estil W. and Sally M. (Wampler)Fox.

Clyde studied at Indiana University, but before he could earn his degree he enlisted in the US Navy serving in WWII. When the war ended, he came home to Bloomington and joined his father in the family furniture business along with his brother and sister, operating McDaniel Furniture Store for many decades.

Clyde married the love of his life Florence (Flossie)Routen on September 1, 1946 in McDowell Baptist Church in Bloomington.

Clyde was passionate about golf, loved to hunt and play cards. He also enjoyed sprint car racing and was co-owner of the Bloomington Speedway in the 1960’s and early 70’s. He loved being with his friends and family especially watching his grandchildren grow up. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Bloomington and was recently awarded at the local American Legion for his 72 years of active membership, the longest of that branch. Clyde was also a member of the Bloomington Elks.

Clyde is survived by his loving wife Flossie, two sons and their wives: Jerry(Ann)Fox and Jim(Lendy)Fox, six grandchildren: Jason, Justin, Jereme(wife Taylor), Brice, Logan and Fallon, eight great-grandchildren: Jessica, Hannah, Alex, Cooper, Lauren, Noah, Francesca and Maise and his sister Kathryn Mitchell.

He was preceded in death by his parents Estil and Sally, son Jeff Fox, great-grandson Braydn and his brother Lawrence Fox.

Visitation for Clyde will be on Monday, October 24, 2016 from 4-8 p.m. in Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home, 4150 E. Third St., Bloomington, IN 47401. The funeral service will be on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at 12 noon also in the funeral home with Pastor Helen Hempfling officiating. Burial will be in Clear Creek Cemetery with the Monroe County Honor Guard presenting military honors.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Clyde’s name to The American Legion Burton Woolery Post 18 or the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be provided by the funeral home.
