Jane Brue, 84, of Bloomington, passed away Saturday, May 12, 2018 at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington. Jane was born December 10, 1933, in Pontiac, the daughter of Claude and Lillian Gilles Johnson.
Surviving are her four children, Joyce (Bob) Clay, Bloomington; David Brue, Florida; Todd (Kim) Brue, Texas; and Darcey (Dan) Signs, Florida; 15 grandchildren - Elizabeth (Mark) Blankenship of Bloomington; Adam (Kelly) Clay of Pennsylvania; Kristin Clay of Bloomington; Rebekah (Joshua) Lambert of Kentucky; Joshua (Hosanna) Clay of Utah; Emily (James) Clay of Utah; Abby Clay of Bloomington; Nathan Clay of Bloomington; Daniel Brue of Colorado; Dr. Trevor Brue of Missouri; Matthew Brue of Texas; MaryBeth Brue of Texas; Logan Brue of Texas; Sean Shaffer of Bloomington; and Brandy Shaffer of Arizona; and twelve great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Brue; two sisters; and one brother. Jane was born and raised in Pontiac, Illinois, where she and John raised their four children. She was Director of Nursing at St James Hospital for ten years prior to moving to Bloomington.
Her number one priority was taking care of her family. She loved attending all sporting events for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was the central hub for all family holidays and meals. She was a nursing professor at Illinois Wesleyan University for 21 years and received multiple accolades from students and faculty. She led multiple “study abroad” classes to Arizona, Hawaii, and Japan. Additionally, she and John were loyal fans of Wesleyan basketball and regularly hosted the team for post-season meals. Jane was a published author in the field of geriatric nursing. Her book, “A Nurse’s Guide to Caring for Elders,” was published in multiple languages and used in many classrooms throughout the world. She and John were members of First Presbyterian Church in Bloomington.
Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 18, 2018 at the Evelyn Chapel, Illinois Wesleyan University, 1301 North Park Street. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Evelyn Chapel. Burial will be immediately following the service at Southside Cemetery, 400 S Locust St, Pontiac. Memorial contributions may be made to Illinois Wesleyan University Nursing and Basketball. East Lawn Funeral Home in Bloomington is handling the arrangements.
