Born on August 23, 1945, in Belvedere, IL, to Robert and Lorraine (Labo) Burton, Jon spent his early years in Marengo, IL. He proudly served in the U.S. Army as a Lineman during the Vietnam War, returning home in January 1967 with an honorable discharge. After returning home, Jon worked as a Lineman and later as a Testman for the phone company, eventually retiring from Verizon in 2002. In 1987, Jon married the love of his life, Sandra Betsinger, in Sycamore, IL. Together, they raised their youngest daughter and enjoyed many happy years of retirement together.
Jon was a man who found joy in the simple things. He loved coffee, breakfast with family and friends, spending time with his wife and dog Kita, a good nap, and keeping busy with word games and puzzles. His laughter was contagious, and he had a cheerful charm that made everyone around him feel included and welcome.
Jon is survived by his wife, Sandra Burton; his six children and step-children including: James (Beth) Burton of Oswego, IL, Joshowa (Rowena) Burton of DeKalb, IL, Jason (Katie) Burton of St. Louis, MO, Taunie (Mathew) McClintock of Normal, IL, Todd (Ashley) Betsinger of Fairbury, IL, and Michelle Betsinger of California.
