James was born January 18, 1947, in Taegu, South Korea, to Hung Yul and Au Ki (Lee) Im. He proudly served in the Republic of South Korea Army. He married Susan Lee on August 18, 1974 in Seoul, Korea. James was a member of Jesus Love Church in Champaign where he also served as an Elder. He was a Grand Master in Kendo and a Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do, Hapkido and Judo. James was an amazing chef. He owned and operated restaurants in California and was known for his delicious Korean barbecue. James enjoyed playing cards, golf, and was an avid Dodgers and Lakers fan. His true love was spending time with his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Susan; his two sons, David (Maggie) Im and Joseph (Angelica) Im; five grandchildren, Karizma, Isaiah, Gabriel, Mia and Amalia Im; six sisters and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister and one brother.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of James will be at 12 p.m. Sunday, December 5, 2021, at East Lawn Funeral Home 1102 Airport Road, Bloomington, IL 61704. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. before the services on Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Gardens following the services.
