Jerry was born in 1943 in Bloomington, IL, to Lloyd and Irene Moncelle. He graduated from Lexington High School, where he met the love of his life, Christina Archibald. They were married in 1964 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lexington.
Jerry proudly served as a jet mechanic in the United States Air Force and in the Air National Guard. He retired from Eureka Company.
Whether it was buying groceries for those in need, or completing home repairs or yard work for those who needed help, acts of service was Jerry’s love language. He spent many years building wheelchair ramps with the local Cornbelt Chapter of AMBUCS. Jerry was a talented woodworker and had a life-long passion for trains and airplanes. He instilled empathy, encouraged creativity, and a love of music in his children. He enjoyed spending time with family, hiking at Sugar Grove Nature Center, and traveling. Jerry was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and will be truly missed.
Jerry is survived by his two children, Christa (David) Lucas, Amanda Moncelle; and his granddaughter, Andrea Lucas, all of Bloomington. He is also survived by his two brothers, Gary Moncelle of Lexington, IL, and Steve Moncelle of Gridley, IL; as well as numerous nieces and nephews; and good friends.
Jerry was preceded in passing by his wife, Christina; and his parents.
Jerry will be laid to rest in East Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Bloomington. Services will be held at East Lawn Funeral Home on Monday, October 23, 2023, at 12:00 p.m.
