Rev. Anthony “Tony” W. Callies was called to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 21, 2022. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Dorothy as of June 1, 2022. Tony was born in Chicago on March 24, 1937 to Herbert and Irene (Wilson) Callies.
Tony graduated from Minnesota School for the Deaf in 1957. For several years, he worked as a linotype operator. After he was saved at a revival meeting, he attended Central Bible College in Missouri. Following his graduation in 1967, he married Dorothy, who was also deaf. After their marriage, they began Evangelistic ministry, performing dramas throughout the USA and in New Brunswick, Canada. They preached at Deaf Camps in Michigan, Wisconsin and Louisiana. During their prime this couple was in much demand. They have also pastored 7 deaf churches in the U.S. They have made 7 films and have also created 5 excellent verse-by-verse Bible studies that are available through [email protected]
Dorothy & Tony attended and assisted in the ministry at First Assembly of God Deaf Church in Normal, IL until their semi-retirement. They were called upon to speak at special events in different states and Canada. They both worked for a while at Taco Bell. Both enjoyed their quiet time in Bloomington, IL. They also became well known for their ASL duets. They paved the way in many ways for those coming after them. This is the song we remember them singing together.
What a day that will be
When my Jesus I shall see
When I look upon His face
The one who saved me by His grace
When He takes me by the hand
And leads me through the Promised Land
What a glorious day that will be!
