Bubby had a traveling sprit in which he filled by driving cross country with his father, Nolan Bailey. He worked for and retired from Bekins Moving & Storage, where he worked there with his brother in-law George Gains. Bubby enjoyed working for Bekins as it allowed him to travel all throughout California and meet new people.
Bubby had a green thumb and was known for his love of planting, gardening, and trimming his trees. He also enjoyed fishing, going to park, and entertaining family and friends in his hangout spot, his garage. He was good at working with his hands. He enjoyed working on cars, fixing all types of things and was always there to help whomever needed his expertise on mechanic work and house hold projects. If he didn’t know how to do it, he always knew someone who did. Bubby had a known passion for all types of music particularly jazz and Motown oldies. This passion for music inspired him to take guitar lessons from his mentor Lou Spagner. Bubby also passed the time by playing guitar at his father’s night club, The Night Life.
Bubby had a no-nonsense, straight up attitude towards life and people. But he was also nurturing, gentle, and had a laid-back way about him. He was loyal and he was known for having a good time. He will always be known for giving his ears for listen, his shoulders for crying on, his words of wisdom and advice. He was always there to help raise his grandchildren. From wiping away their tears, babysitting them, picking them up from school, and making Papa’s special breakfast pancakes, eggs, and sausage. He was ALWAYS there for his grandchildren and children. He was a DEVOTED father and husband as he stood by and cared for his wife in the last years of her life. He truly was by her side through sickness and health. Bubby was one of a kind. He was a man’s man. He is loved and will be deeply missed. And as Bubby would say, “ I’ll drink to that!”
