William Hugh Mann Jr.

William “Bill” Hugh Mann, Jr, 90, went home to be with the Lord on January 10, 2022. He was born June 21, 1931 to William H. Mann, Sr. and Mable Grace (Brown) Mann in Birmingham, Alabama. Bill graduated from Ramsey High School in Birmingham and then graduated from the University of Alabama with a Mechanical Engineering Degree. He moved to Huntsville, AL where he spent his career at NASA and then retired. After retirement, he enjoyed golf in the NASA golf league, with friends, and with his brother Ken Mann of Birmingham. He enjoyed his time with family and his grandchildren.

Bill married the love of his life, Elizabeth “Betty” Jane Smith Mann at St. Catherine of Siena in Pratt City, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; parents, William and Mable Mann; and son, Greg Mann. He leaves behind to cherish many fond memories, his brother Kenneth (Vonda) Mann of Birmingham; daughter, Mary (Jim) McAlpin of Marietta, Georgia; sons, Brian Mann of Bend, Oregon, Paul Mann (Susi) of Huntsville; and Cary (Karla) Mann of Huntsville; 13 grandchildren, Michael (Elizabeth) Mann of Birmingham, Kevin Mann of Prineville, Oregon, Lauren Mann of Huntsville, Brandon Mann of West Linn, Oregon; Kyle Mann (Morgan) of Huntsville, Caitlyn Trousdale of Huntsville, Nicholas Mann of College Station, TX, Jimmy McAlpin of Los Angeles, CA, Eric Mann (Rebecca) of Huntsville, Sarah McAlpin of Atlanta, Jacqueline Mann of Atlanta, Scot Augustson of Birmingham, and Lila Mann of Huntsville; 4 great-grandchildren, Jack and Anne August Mann of Birmingham, William H. Mann of Huntsville and Bhodi Arthur Mann of West Linn, Oregon.

A graveside service will be on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at Elmwood Cemetery for extended family members only. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Huntsville, AL.
