William Lawrence Lamey passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 17th, 2022 in the loving arms of his parents at Children’s Hospital. Just hours before he passed, the three watched the sun rise together in the hospital's rosemary garden. It was a beautiful moment that the family will always cherish. He is survived by his parents: Kate and Bill Lamey; incredible aunts and uncle: Sarah Leebel (Matt) and Beth Lamey (Jen); and adoring grandparents: Marie and Jack Lawrence, Peggy Farrar (John), and Bud Lamey; loving great-grandparents: Bettye Lawrence and Ken Stickney.
William impacted uncountable lives of his family, friends, communities, and care teams. All were in awe of his relentless strength and he truly lived up to the meaning of his name: Strong-willed Warrior. His days were filled with unwavering support and love. Through the gift of organ donation, William will provide life to other families. His legacy will continue through advocacy and a memorial bench will be placed in his honor on one of the Lamey's favorite trails at Oak Mountain State Park.
In lieu of flowers, please consider having a tree planted in William’s honor through The Nature Conservancy. As Nelson Henderson said, “the true meaning of life is to plant trees under whose shade you do not expect to sit”. The family was also deeply touched by the care received at Children's of Alabama and William would be honored by a donation to provide assistance to other families.
