Thomas (Tommy) Browning Traylor, Jr., age 90 of Hoover, passed away Friday May 25, 2018. Tommy was born on May 5, 1928 in Dothan, AL. He graduated from Ensley High School and spent his career in display and marketing, retiring from Fix-Play Displays. Despite a weakened leg due to polio contracted as a teen, he was drafted by the Army and served two years near the end of the Korean War. Trusting in Christ alone, and assured of his salvation, Tommy was a long-time and active church member, serving first at Hunter Street Baptist, Raleigh Avenue Baptist, and then in his senior years, Shades Mountain Baptist Church. He was involved in leadership, choir, youth ministries, mission trips, and used his artistic talents to present “chalk talks.” He achieved a childhood dream of learning to fly and was active for many years in the Civil Air Patrol. After retirement, he enjoyed painting landscapes and airplanes which he would sell at local art shows. Tommy always modeled a positive attitude, contentment, and he never complained. He honored his wedding vows until the end, being the primary caregiver for his beloved wife for many years. Tommy is preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Rosemary Miller Traylor, his parents Thomas and Velma Traylor, and a brother Charles (Tim) Traylor. Survivors include his daughter Anita Wills (Don) of Sterrett, AL; son Dave Traylor (Cindy) of Hoover, AL; grandchildren Annie Willhite, Katie Traylor, Benjamin Traylor, and Sarah Traylor Sinquefield; and five great grandchildren. Visitation is scheduled for Saturday June 2 at 10:00 AM at Elmwood Chapel with the funeral service to follow at Elmwood Chapel at 11:00 AM, followed by internment at Elmwood Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the IMB of the Southern Baptist Convention.
