Susan Stewart Earle

Susan Stewart Earle passed away peacefully on September 25th, 2023 after 78 years of a life well-lived, surrounded by her family and pets at her home in Birmingham, Alabama. She is survived by her son, Charles; her son and daughter-in-law, Phillip and Lori; her grandson, William, and his fiancé, Kelley; her grandson, Robbie, and countless friends and loved ones.

Susan was born in Anniston, Alabama on May 30, 1945 to Margaret and Ernest Stewart. She attended college at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and Samford University. She had three sons and two grandsons who she loved fiercely from the moment they came into the world until the moment she left it.

Susan was deeply devoted to Canterbury United Methodist Church for 52 years and volunteered there frequently. She was a member of the JOY Sunday School, a Stephen Minister and Leader, and active through the Canterbury in Birmingham Hospitality Network, Prayer Team, and Brown Bag. She was also certified as an ERT through the United Methodist Committee on Relief. The relationships that grew from that church were tightly knit and meant the world to her.

Her successful career with Compass Bank spanned over 25 years and many of the friendships she made at the bank lasted way past her 2009 retirement as Senior Vice President. She was also a member of the Financial Women International and Consumer Advisory Committee to the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago.

She is preceded in death by her oldest son, John B. Earle, III, in 2005; her husband and soulmate of 39 years, John B. Earle, Jr. (Jack), in 2006; and her brother, Ernest R. Stewart, Jr., in 2019.

A celebration of her life will be held at Canterbury United Methodist Chapel on Friday, 09/29/2023 at 11:00 o'clock. Visitation with the family will begin at 10:00.
