Steven Norman Nelson, age 71 passed away on December 14, 2021. Steve was born on June 21, 1950 in Lewiston, Maine to Norman and Betty Nelson. His family moved to his mother’s hometown of Birmingham, Alabama when Steve was 10 years old. He graduated from Fairfield High School and attended Auburn University and then received his Engineering Degree from UAB while working full time and going to school at night. He worked as a mechanical engineer for over 40 years.
Steve leaves behind his loving wife of 46 years, Debbie Nelson, 3 children, Lisa Secor (Jason), Jonathan Nelson (Kristina), Jennifer McWhorter (Jon), and 10 grandchildren, Riley, Bailey, Will and Maddie McWhorter, David Nelson, and Cody, Jake, Drew, Luke and Nora Secor, and a sister, Jeanne Eller (Lance).
Steve was an amazing loving husband, dad, and grandaddy and was always a strength and prayer warrior for his family and many others. God gave him a passion to lead and teach on prayer. He has prayed for many and seen God miraculously heal! A long time ago God revealed the Truth to Steve in the following verse.
“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us — whatever we ask — we know that we have what we asked of Him.” 1 John 5:14-15
Over the years Steve was involved in many ministries including Promise Keepers, M-Power Ministries, Bill Glass Prison Ministry, SOZO Birmingham Ministry, prayer ministry at Church of the Highlands and Life Springs Church, and Parresia Ministries.
A celebration of life service for Steve will be held Monday, December 20, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. at Johns-Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel, 800 Dennison Avenue, SW, Birmingham, AL 35211.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M.
