On May 9th, 2019, Lt. Colonel Stanley Dean Templeton passed away at the age of 69 in St. Louis, Mo. Stan was born in Birmingham, Al. on August 8th, 1949 to Mr. and Mrs. Emmett O. Templeton. He attended Ramsay High School and graduated from Birmingham Southern College in 1972 with a Bachelors of Arts Degree in History. He was also a scholarship player on the Men’s tennis team at ‘Southern. After graduation in 1972, Stan joined the United States Air Force and served with honor and distinction for the next twenty years. During his time in service he piloted B-52 bombers, T 38 trainers and during the Gulf War of 1990 he flew C-5 transporters. While serving Stan also received his Masters Degree from Webster University and was the recipient of The National Defense Service Medal with a Bronze Star.
Upon retirement from the Air Force in 1992, Stan joined United Airlines as a Captain and piloted for the airline until 2004 when he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. Stan was preceded in death by his parents and his eldest son, Stanley Dean Templeton, Jr. He is survived by his loving son, Charles Scott Templeton and granddaughter, Brianna Nicole Hansen. Survivors also include his siblings, Dr. and Mrs. Emmett O. Templeton, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Willy M. Dielen and Mr. and Mrs. Kevin R. Stump. Stan has many surviving nieces and nephews. Stan enjoyed his life to the fullest, traveling, and experiencing all parts of the world. He enjoyed good food, (dessert was his favorite), family and watching the St Louis Cardinals with his sons. He was an avid dog lover and was never known to be without “man’s best friend “. He was loved and will be missed. May he rest in peace. Graveside services will be held at Elmwood Cemetery on May 16th 2019 at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers please send gifts to the Michael J. Fox Foundation or The Alabama Humane Society.
