Sara attended Sarasota High School and Gordon Keller Nursing School at the Tampa Municipal Hospital.
She married Weldon Stephen Latham. They had 4 children, and after her young husband’s untimely death, she worked diligently as a nurse at night to raise her children by herself.
She was a passionate and active grandmother in the next season of her life, continuing to pour her time and energy into her family.
Her legacy is one of resilience, love, devotion, and generosity, including annual gifts of Hallmark Christmas ornaments to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren throughout their lives.
She was a faithful member at Shades Mountain Community Church, a member of the Widow’s Might Sunday School class for many years, and a devoted believer in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
She is preceded in death by her parents Herman Shipman Hatchett and Frances Hill Hatchett, her siblings Cresswell Hatchett, Robert Hatchett, Frances Tillett, Herman Hatchett, Jr., her husband Weldon Stephen Latham, her daughter Ann Tibbs, and her son-in-law Vic Zannis.
She is survived by her sister Irma Hopkins, her daughters Sara Latham Zannis and Stephanie Nelson Morris (Rick), her son William Steven Latham, grandchildren Brandy Castleberry (Bobby), JC Zannis (Lindsay), Scott Nelson (Micah), Rachel Callahan (Chris), Nick Zannis, Jackson Latham, 7 great-grandchildren, and many cousins, extended family, and friends.
Her funeral will be held in the chapel at Shades Mountain Community Church on September 20, 2021 at 1:30, with a visitation beforehand from 1:00-1:30.
In lieu of flowers, honor Sara’s legacy of generosity and love of blessing others at Christmas by donating to the Operation Christmas Child through Samaritan’s Purse.
