Ronald Lamar Wood of Leeds, Alabama, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2021. He was born September 8, 1941 in Homewood, Alabama, to Marie Hopkins Wood and Claude Edward Wood, and was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, great-uncle, brother-in-law and friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Dr. Claude Edward Wood Jr. and his twin sister Joyce. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-four years, Kerin Jane (Bejma); daughter Elizabeth Marie (Gresham); sons Ronald Lamar, Jr and John Patrick; granddaughters Jane Elizabeth Gresham and Julia Hopkins Gresham; nieces June Wood LeCroy, Barbara Wood Fash and Lauren Elizabeth Pastore; nephews Claude Edward Wood III, James Banks Bell and Tyler Mark Bell; six great nieces and two great nephews.
Ron was greatly loved and respected by his family and friends. A 1959 graduate of Hewitt High School in Trussville he went on to earn a degree in business administration from Auburn University in 1964. While at Auburn Ron was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity of which he remained a life-long devoted active alumni, giving generously of his time and money whenever he saw a need. He served as a lieutenant in the United States Air Force where he saw action in Vietnam as a navigator on a C-130 Hercules transport aircraft before being honorably discharged after attaining the rank of captain. He worked in the field of human resources for over forty years. He served as a coach for numerous youth sports teams over the years. He will be remembered by family and friends for his devotion to them, his love of life, his eagerness to lend a hand and his infectious sense of humor.
A celebration of life will be held in the near future. The family requests in lieu of flowers, please make donations in Ron's memory to the Greater Birmingham Humane Society or to the charity of your choice.
