Bob graduated from Shades Cahaba High School and served in the Merchant Marines. He returned to the Birmingham area where he went to work for Goslin Machine shop, where he retired after 38 years. When he retired, he loved camping trips with friends from church and his grandkids. He loved to fish and be outdoors. He was a real role model for his grandchildren, teaching them his hard work ethic, his love of the outdoors, and to live life to its fullest.
Bob married the love of his life, Ruth Glover Sims at her parents’ home in Ensley, Alabama on April 4, 1952. He is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; parents, William and Nellie Sims; sister, Doris Bryan; and brother, Jim Sims. He leaves behind to cherish many fond memories, his daughters, Sandra Sims Singleton and Belinda Sims McDonald of Helena, Alabama; 4 grandchildren, Brooke Singleton of Montevallo, Alabama, Corey McDonald (Jenna) of Riverside, Alabama, Andrew McDonald (Isabella) of Cartersville, Georgia, and Jeremy McDonald (Amelia) of Hoover, Alabama; 2 great-grandchildren, Weston Sims McDonald and Garrett Ray McDonald of Riverside, Alabama.
The visitation will be on Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at Elmwood Chapel Funeral Home at 10 am; with graveside services to follow at 11 at Elmwood Cemetery.
