Wentzel, Richard R., Sr., age 85 of Trussville, Al passed away Tuesday, October 2, 2012. Richard was born in Wilkesbarre, Pennsylvania on November 26, 1926 and served his country in the US Army during WWII. He was a resident of Trussville since 1954 where he served as a member and Sunday school teacher of The First Baptist Church of Trussville. He also served his community as the president of the Chamber of Commerce, Gatekeeper, Chairman of the Trussville Utility Board, one of the founders and chairman of The Cahaba Bank and Trust until it later sold, and he was also listed in the Alabama’s Who’s Who of Business Professionals. He was Owner and President of Wentzel Carbide Tool Co.,Inc.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bessie and Ralph Wentzel. He is survived by his loving family, his wife of 65 years, Grace Wentzel; two daughters, Patricia Wentzel Clark (Tom) and Jane Wentzel Taylor (Phil); a son, Ralph Wentzel, Jr.; grandchildren, Richard Wentzel III, Drew Taylor, Clay Taylor, Katie Clark, Marcus Clark, and Sam Clark; great grandchildren, Rhianna Wentzel and Alex Wentzel; a sister, Joan Thomas and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 5, 2012 at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel at 1:00 PM with visitation from 11:30 until service time. Interment will follow in Forrest Cemetery in Gadsden, AL. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Trussville.
