She is survived by her daughter, Lu-Anne DeHaney of Birmingham, AL; niece, Della Mae Chapman of Parrish, AL and numerous great, great great, and great great great nieces and nephews.
Mrs. DeHaney graduated from Gadsden Business College. During World War II, she worked with IBM on data systems at Alabama Power, then with Continental Gin. She worked with her husband at their drug store in Ensley in the early 1950’s. She worked for City Federal Savings and Loan for 26 years initially on their data systems and then in serving insurance on home loans. She was an Assistant Treasurer until her retirement. She also volunteered at the Alabama Heart Institute to visit heart patients.
Mrs. DeHaney worked in the PTA at Woodrow Wilson School. She was a member of a Crestwood area Garden Club. She was the president of the UMW and was a trustee at Ensley First United Methodist Church. She was a member at Canterbury United Methodist Church.
She loved football. She attended Alabama home games from 1975 through 2006 and most away games with her daughter. They also attended the 1989 Super Bowl.
Lena played basketball in high school and attended many UA home games from 1986 through 2017.
She loved to travel in Europe and Canada and loved road trips in the U.S. Her last road trip was to the Grand Canyon in 2016.
A celebration of Lena’s life will be held at Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel from 11:00 – 12:00 PM with a graveside service following at 12:00 at Elmwood Cemetery.
