Larry Ronald Newman, age 73, was born on December 14, 1948 to Harold Newman and Miriam "Cookie" Berman Newman in Birmingham, AL and moved with the family to Anniston, AL. His family later returned to Birmingham where he attended Shades Valley High School and graduated from The University of Alabama. During his time at Alabama, he was a member of Phi Epsilon Pi fraternity where he made life long friends. He continued his studies and received his Juris Doctorate in 1973. He began his career in the Alabama Attorney General's Office in Montgomery, Alabama representing the Board of Corrections and prosecuting cases. He returned to Birmingham to work on other legal projects and eventually started and owned Magnolia Title Company specializing in mortgage closings and land title research. He was a member of both the Alabama State Bar and State Bar of Georgia associations. In later years, he continued his work with commercial land title searches. He had been an active member within the Jewish community. Being retired, he was enjoying life at the cabin home in Dahlonega, Georgia. He enjoyed driving his Audi TT Roadster and visiting with neighbors and friends at the Foothill Grill. Larry never met a stranger, was always willing to help, embraced each day, and had a good heart. He will be greatly missed. A loving husband, brother and uncle, Larry Newman is survived by his wife, Andrea, his sister, Marsha Newman Polin, of Tarpon Springs, FL, his nieces, Judge Marla L. Polin, (George Gagnon III) of Spokane, Washington, Megan Meister (Eric) of Tampa, FL, and great nephews and nieces, George Gagnon IV, Ryan Meister, Edward Gagnon, Madison Meister, Miriam Gagnon and Morgan Meister. He is also survived by extended family members and close friends in Birmingham and Dahlonega, Georgia.
Graveside services to be held at Knesseth Israel-Beth El Cemetery on the Northside in Birmingham, Alabama at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 16, 2022.
A Celebration of Life and Shiva will follow graveside services at Chabad of Alabama, 3040 Overton Road, Birmingham, Alabama 35223.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the Nimblewill Creek Road Neighborhood, the Lumpkin County GA Medical Examiner and Coroner's Office and the Lumpkin County GA Sheriff's Office.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials can be made to The Jimmie Hale Mission (Birmingham, AL), the Community Helping Place and Jeremiah's Place - North Georgia Interfaith Ministries (Dahlonega, GA), any of the local synagogues in the Birmingham area or the charity of your choice.
