DURRETT, JOAN WEBSTER, age 79, of Birmingham, passed away Sunday, July 14, 2013. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Ella and Thomas Rosser; brothers, Charles, Robert and Joseph; sisters, Wilma Moon, Alice Webster, Mary Nell Stephenson and Geraldine Baldwin. She is survived by her brother, Thomas Webster; sisters, Mildred Moon and Juanita Hamilton; and numerous nieces and nephews. Joan graduated from Carraway Hospital School of Nursing, worked for Carraway for over 25 years and was active with the Retired Nurses Association. Joan loved people, especially children. She loved being a nurse and took great pride in wearing her "nurse whites". Her patients and those that worked alongside her loved and respected her. She loved Alabama football and Christmas. She loved road trips...Gulf Shores, the Shrimp Festival, fishing off the pier, and boating and camping on the river. Nothing made her happier than grilling up a good steak, cooking up some BBQ ribs or even a big batch of "fancy" chicken salad. Everyone who met Joan loved her. Her laughter and personality were infectious. She will truly be missed by everyone. OH...and anyone who knew her knew never to go head to head with her in a burping contest! Her family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 from 2-4 PM at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel. There will be a memorial service beginning at 4 PM.
