JANE VANCE JONES, 91, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 12, 2021. She was born on February 4, 1930, in Birmingham, Alabama. She was a devout Catholic with strong ties to St. Peter's Catholic Church in Hoover. In her youth, she studied commercial art at Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn University). Jane joined Mason and Dulion in 1963 as a bookkeeper, contributing so much that she was quickly made a partner in the venture as the company became M&D Mechanical and then retired from the company in 1992. She was a founding member and first President of the Alabama Chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction. Jane was a charter member of the Vestavia Hills Art Association and a member of both the Magic City Quilting Bee and the Birmingham Quilters' Guild. She was a talented quilter and painter who admired theatre, literature, cinema, and fine arts. Jane enjoyed her daily newspaper, happy hour, word games, and her iPad. Known to many as "G-Slice," "Mother," "Grandma Jane," and "the Matriarch," she forged us all into a tight and loving family - a priceless gift forever. She touched many lives with her strong spirit and talents. She will be greatly missed.
