James Edward Nash Jr.

James Edward Nash, Jr. of Trussville, AL., died on December 24, 2020. Born on August 3, 1930, he was the son of James Edward Nash and Costah Johnson Nash. “Jim” attended North Birmingham Elementary School and Philips High School, where he was a member of the baseball team. After high school, Jim attended Birmingham-Southern College where he enjoyed his time as a brother of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity and played intermural sports while earning his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. He graduated from Birmingham- Southern in 1952. Following his college career Jim served four years in the United States Army. Jim was a lifelong supporter of his college and particularly enjoyed attending BSC basketball games as long as he was able. While attending Birmingham- Southern he met his wife of 62 years Betty Jo Taylor. Jim and Betty Jo were married October 16, 1954 at Woodlawn Presbyterian Church. Jim and Betty Jo made their home in Birmingham and were the proud parents of three daughters. They were long-time members of Huffman United Methodist Church, and faithfully attended the Loyalty Sunday School Class where they formed many lifelong friendships. He was also a member of the United Methodist Men’s Club, served in multiple leadership roles with the Birmingham chapter of Rotary International, and was an avid fan and supporter of Auburn University. Following a prestigious career in the metal decorating business with both Gerber Products Company and Maxwell House, he retired in 1992. He was awarded a commemorative Maxwell House “Jim Nash Master Blend” coffee can upon his retirement. Post retirement Jim loved to travel with friends, deliver Meals on Wheels and work part time with Medical Home Care providing home health equipment in the Birmingham area. Jim was preceded in death by his wife Betty Jo and his brother George Nash, as well as his parents. He is survived by his three daughters; Jill Borders (Jim) of Trussville; Amy Pigg (Mike) of Auburn and Gail Osborne (David) of Trussville; eleven grandchildren, Julie Borders Garth (Jeff), Laurie Borders Lowery (Ray), Melissa Pigg Hunter (Robert), Emily Borders, Sarah Pigg, Taylor Borders (Lindsay), Haley Borders, Natalie Pigg Welesko (David), Amy Borders Ozburn (Ross), Nash Osborne, and Abby Osborne; six great-grandchildren, Emmie Borders, Charlie Hunter, Wyatt Lowery, Graham Lowery, Shepherd Borders and Katherine Welesko. Jim would be honored if in lieu of flowers you would remember him with your gifts to your local Meals on Wheels or the Huffman United Methodist Church Loyalty Sunday School Class. Although we know that many of you who loved and cared for our Dad would make the choice to join us for a celebration of a life well-lived, out of an abundance of caution we have made the difficult decision to have a family only graveside service 3:00 at Elmwood Cemetery on Tuesday, December 29, 2020.
