Howard Morel Vinson, 86, of Marietta, Georgia, passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2024. He was born in Birmingham, Alabama, in 1938. After graduating from Phillips High School, he entered the Navy and served two years in Bermuda. In 1964, he married Peggy Martin and raised two daughters. Most of his career was spent in Insurance marketing across multiple southeastern states. He and Peggy were members of First Baptist Church Marietta. Morel was known as a true gentleman, dedicated to his family, and a friend for life. He enjoyed traveling, sport shooting, and playing games with the family, especially Rook and pinochle. His joy was his grandchildren. After having only a sister, daughters, and granddaughters, Morel often jokingly complained about being the last male in his genetic line. But over the past two years he was very proud to welcome two great-grandsons. Preceding Morel in death was his wife of 52 years, Peggy. Survivors include his daughters, Julia Vinson of Marietta, and Laura (Vinson) Engshun and her husband, Michael of Cartersville; four grandchildren, Leanne, Kayla, Andrew, and Jeanetta; five great-grandchildren, Jazmyn, James, Keenan, Steve, and Erik; sister-in-law, Betty Morgan and her husband, Doug; and many more loved ones and friends. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to “Kids at Heart” at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Our family is grateful to CHOA for helping our newborn Erik survive severe heart defects this year. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel, 1500 Gadsden Hwy. The graveside service and burial will take place on Friday at Noon at Ridout’s Forest Hill Cemetery, 431 60th Street North in Birmingham.
