He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruby Louise Blackerby Hines and Roland O’Neal Hines. He is survived by his wife Cheryl Kreisch Hines, his daughters Lauren Christine Hines, Kayla Marie Hines, and Olivia Nicole Hines, his siblings Debbie (Stanley) Davis and Ricky (LaWanna) Hines, and many nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles, especially Gene and Reba Blackerby, who he was very close to.
He graduated from Tarrant High School in 1972. After graduation, he served in the Army and the Navy. During his employment at Brookwood Medical Center in Plant Operations, he graduated from Jefferson State Community College with an associates degree in nursing. After graduation he worked in various units at Brookwood, with his last and most favorite position being main OR with the neurology team. Due to back injury, he had to retire early in life, but enjoyed spending his retirement raising his daughters.
His hobbies included drawing, painting, and photography, but his favorite was scuba diving. He was certified in basic scuba diving and held advanced certifications in search and rescue and recovery. He was most proud of his co-ownership of the RNR Dive Shop in Center Point, Alabama. He was Methodist by faith, but was open to worshiping in many different churches.
His service will be officiated by Shannon Thomas on February 2nd at 10:00 AM at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo. Donations to Ruth’s Doghouse can be made in honor of his love for animals.
